Shoutout to Mustafa Sulaiman and Ryan Foran for putting together a fantastic event in the best gym in the country for some of the top talent in the state. The players gave us a little sneak peak on what to expect out of them in the season. These are the top guards I saw from Sunday!
RJ McKinnie (Simeon 2024)
The smooth lefty guard was rewarded with the MVP of the event with his outstanding play. He used his quickness and good ball handling to get to the basket. He hit straightaway 3s as well. Will breakout and be a big part of Simeon's success this year.
Jeremy Fears Jr (Joliet West 2023)
Fears left the state and came back with some bounce! He had multiple showtime dunks but the most impressive was an reverse oop. Of course he showed his playmaking and the ability to get any shot he wanted on the floor. Welcome back Mr. Fears!
Dalen Davis (Whitney Young 2023)
One thing about Dalen is that he will compete no matter the situation. He didn't care it was a showcase, he always plays the right way. Great two way guard, who drops dimes, and has a smooth handle.
Bryce Tillery (Hillcrest 2023)
Tillery is one of the top uncommitted guards in 2023. He constantly got into the lane to either finish at the rim, kick to shooters, or lob it to the big man. 4 year varsity PG who will lead Hillcrest to another successful season.
Jeremiah Fears (Joliet West 2025)
Fears is the top player in the state for sophomores, and was recently snubbed on the national rankings. The smooth guard scored from all 3 levels with his tight handle and shiftiness. He continues to grow and has had multiple high major colleges showing up for his open gyms.
BJ Powell (Lincoln Way East 2026)
Powell was the youngest player in the gym but fit right in. Has a nice lefty jumper, hit several 3s off the bounce and catch. Already holds 2 division 1 offers, and will continue to see his stock rise from here.
Corey Lee (Oak Lawn 2024)
Lee impressed big on Sunday. His first game he immediately knocked down a 3, then got to the basket for some easy layups. Competed on defense, showing he was one of the better perimeter defenders there. Look out for him this season.
