The final day of the terrific RecruitLook Hoops Chicago Showcase was today, and I got to check out two games. There will be more articles coming out about the overall prospects at this tournament, and how they did not just the games I saw. Let's get into the day 3 notebook!
Full Package Gold vs Chicago Hoops 17 u:
The matchup between unsigned seniors Rolling Meadows forward Mark Nikolich Wilson and Tinley Park forward Amarion Johnson was on display in this one. The 6'7 Wilson got the best of Johnson in this one showing off his improved 3 point shooting and his stellar passing and rebounding. D2's should look to offer him before it's to late. Full package had a nice mix of shooters and playmakers on this team, and a player that did both was Carmel Catholic 2024 guard Kaleb Jackson. He's got a good handle that helps him get downhill and make plays for others. Often made those plays for Glenbrook South 2024 wing JP Hubbard who showed off his 3 point shooting ability.
For Chicago Hoops, Bloom 2024 wing Santana Flowers went to work, showing his elite slashing ability. His athleticism, handle, and strength help him get to the basket and finish above the rim. Oak Forest 2024 PG Johnny Wiggins shot the ball well from deep, made several 3s. He's also a good rebounder for his size and pushes the ball in transition. Amarion Johnson showed his size and length is a problem for opponents trying to score over him. He's a good shot blocker, rebounder, and rim runner.
DeNard Bros Pro vs Wisconsin Playground UAA 17 u:
The DeNard Bros Pro team is a newly formed team in the Chicagoland area that has opened some eyes. They defeated a Under Armor sponsored team 85-71! They have a lot of talented players on this team, but Dekwon Brown stood out the most. The 6'3 point guard out of Peoria put on a show. He had 27 points and 10 assists. He has a good handle, speed, and gets separation from his defender. He hit 3's off the dribble and got to the basket. On defense he pressure the ball leading to steals and deflections. The 6'7 forward Sam Mickelson showed his nice in and out game, able to shoot the 3 and finish inside, and rebounds at a high level. De La Salle wing Tavariyaun Williams showed his 2-way ability and athleticism, and 6'10 Andrew big Grantas Sakenis is a prospect to keep an eye on with his size and strength on both ends of the floor.
Like I said more articles and takeaways from the weekend will be posted later. Not just from the games I saw, but from all the games. Including top shooters, playmakers, bigs, etc. Thanks to RecruitLook Hoops for the great tournament!
