The Prep Hoops Havoc in the Heartland was a great event presented by Prep Hoops, and I appreciate them for their hospitality and allowing me to cover their event. I got to see a lot of new players from the Illinois area and these are the top performers I saw!
2024
Isaac Wit (M14 - National 1) - Wit is a 6'5 wing in the 2024 class, who scored 13 points against EG10. He attacked the basket and finished, using his size and length. He has the potential to be a great defender, best as a shot blocker, and beats his defenders to the spot to take chargers. Showed he could knock down the 3 as well. Attends Batavia High School.
Evan Stumm (M14 - National 1) - One of the many shooters I saw this weekend, Stumm scored 11 in the win vs EG10. The 6'2 lefty moves well without the ball finding open spots on the floor to catch and shoot. Played for a 23-12 Marmion team last year with some good wins. Will be a big part of their success next year as well.
Matthew Peczulis (Lituanica Elite) - Saw 2 games of Lituanica this weekend and Peczulis was a double digit scorer in both. High level shooter who also makes plays for others, showing some stellar vision. Good size for a point guard, will be a leader for the solid young core at Hinsdale South!
2025
Christian Harrell (M14 - National 1) - Harrell is the player pictured in this article. Against Hopson Elite, he was drilling 3s to start the game, and ran the floor for transition baskets. The Yorkville shooting guard put together a nice weekend.
Camden Vine (M14 - National 1) - Vine scored an impressive 24 points in the win over Ronnie Fields Elite. He played good defense leading to transition buckets at the other end. The 6'3 guard also proved he could shoot the 3 and moved the ball well in the half court.
Dominck Ducree (Ronnie Fields Elite) - Ducree played up with the 2024 squad and showed why. He scored 16 points in the win over Hopson Elite. He's a score first point guard who's explosive getting to the basket. He can score from all 3 levels and pressures the ball on defense.
2026
Joe Niego (Mike Glennon Elite) - Niego from Brother Rice is a player that's gonna be on everybody's radar soon. He's already 6'5, can score from all 3 levels, is best from 3, and is a solid defender. With size and length as a combo guard he could be valuable at the varisty level next year.
Ryan Lawlor (Mike Glennon Elite) - Lawlor had a solid showing against M14. He knocked down 3s, got to the basket, and controlled the game, by hitting the open man.
Gavin Belli (M14 - National 1) - The 6'2 forward from St Charles East was attacking the basket with force against MGE. Played well in transition, rebounded, and has a solid frame.
